11/15/08

Greetings to my wonderful JFTC team!

Some updates for our event:

Administrative Paperwork

The first round of invites are out and and I'm thrilled to see how many wonderful and talented women have accepted their invitations and officially signed up to join the ranks of JFTC. The current lists can be viewed on www.jumpforthecause.com  If you think you've registered and/or paid your deposit and it is not reflected there then please contact
Doug Spesart . When you do contact either Doug or I please use your first AND last names. We have several Anna's and Cheryl's etc. and we need to know which one we are talking to!

Remember that there are TWO registration forms to fill out AFTER getting your invite--the first allows you into the participant only area of the website and gets your profile on line. The second form has preferred slot and exit information, roommate request, jumpsuit colors (in addition to other things) and HAS to be filled out to confirm to Richard and I that you are attending. Sorry if this is a lot of extra paperwork but it really helped us to streamline the project on our end.  Currently we have about 20 women who have NOT filled out the second part of the registration.

Richard is contacting people individually who have not yet sent in their second event registration form. Remember--if you HAVE received an invitation then you need to register on www.jumpforthecause.com (both the profile and record registration) and send in deposit AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to reserve your slot.  If we have not received your deposit (or communication stating your plans) by 30 November then we will assume you are passing at this time on your invitation to this event. If you have applied for JFTC and know that you will not be able to attend--for monetary or other reasons--then please send kate an email katejumps@square1.com so she can remove you from the "waiting to respond" list. You can still stay on the mailing list and keep in touch with the event. If circumstances change later on then you can contact us and get reinstated.

Qualifying Skydiving Events:

Your participation in JFTC 2009 assumes that you will arrive in Perris next September as one of the BEST SKYDIVERS IN THE WORLD. Not one of the best women, not one of the best in your country, not the best in pink, but absolutely the BEST. Period. Building a color coded World Record 175 way will not happen by accident--each of you need to CHOOSE to excel at a world class level. As with anything in life the best way to make this choice is to prepare yourself well in advance both mentally and physically. There will be multiple opportunities for you to keep both skills honed over the next year.

I and the rest of the JFTC organizing team do appreciate the extraordinary amount of time and money we are asking you to invest in this event but the reward will be worth it.  In addition to skydiving I recommend every participant schedule a trip to your favorite tunnel to practice stability, fast fall and slow fall body positions. To prep your brain visualize large formation skydives--from exit to approach and track off. Use DVD's from past camps and events and analyze what works for you and know where you need to improve. Prepare yourself physically so you are ready to make many high altitude jumps for 6+ days and land your canopy in little or no winds--possibly wearing weights.  The injuries we had last record were virtually 100% landing related and all were 100% preventable. I strongly recommend a canopy course with emphasis on large formation canopy flight--including object avoidance and off field landing plans. Success is not an accident.

The JFTC events can be found at http://www.google.com/calendar/render?hl=en&tab=wc   If you have a qualifying event you would like ADDED to this calendar then please let me know.

Thai Sky Festival 1-15 March Prachuap Thailand. www.thaiskyfestival.com (this event is FULL but there is a wait list) While this will not be a formal Big Way Camp there will be opportunities for coached skydiving and larger formations.

TSR 22-26 April  Spaceland, Houston: Registration is open at www.bigways.com and invites are being sent out. They have received over 400 applications for 152 slots so do not despair if you do not get approved immediately for this event.

P3 Camps in Perris:
Registration for the May Big Way Camp (30 Apri-3 May) and 100 way camps (7-10 May) will open on Monday, 1st December. Contact is jen@square1.com   The 100 way camp will be confirmed in even sets of 100 so if you are the 101'st person registering you may not receive your confirmation for a while--but I do expect us to eventually fill two complete 100 ways. As always preference for the 100 way will be given to Big Way Camp attendees.

Polish 100 way 14-19 June registration is NOT open yet for this camp but we expect to finalize details shortly. I will send out the information when I receive it.

Belgium Big Way Camp 1-5 July Cerfontaine Belgium. Registration is now open for this event but the online link is still being finalized.  Contact me if you would like details and I will send you the registration form.

Irish Boogie and Record 24-29 July IPC Ireland. While this will not be a formal camp there will be opportunities for formation loads and coached skydiving.

P3 Big Way Camp 3-6 September  Perris, CA. The best possible warm up a few weeks before JFTC. Time to whip out those mad skills you've been working on all year in a no fault environment.

POPS World Record 17-20 September Perris CA. Want a 100+ way warm up RIGHT before JFTC? Are ya old enough to play?  Carey Peck <cpeckskydiving@yahoo.com>

Men's World Record:  Registration is now open on www.bigways.com For all of you who have emailed and said that your husband, boyfriend or significant other wish to attend this even you (they) STILL need to formally apply on this site. If you have already registered with bigways.com it is a simple process. If not then you will need to first register with the site and then click on Men's World Record and apply for that event (in addition to any others).  Do not delay in registering for this event as I suspect it will fill very quickly.

Other events will be added to the JFTC calendar as they are confirmed.
Congratulations to the JFTC women who were just part of the 200 way German National Record and the 71-way WingSuit Record!

JFTC Website:

Remember that Dawn, our hard working VOLUNTEER webmistress has set up a wonderful INTERACTIVE website for our use. Please check the forums before asking questions--remember that a question you have is probably shared by someone else on the team--and if Richard, Dawn or I can answer it once (on the site) rather than a dozen times by email it helps us out as well.  You can post (and CHANGE!) your own photograph to your profile this year--this can easily be taken from your Facebook or MySpace profile. If you do not know how to handle your own photo link, check the forum for basic instructions. If all else fails, email the picture to Dawn and she will send you back the link to paste into your profile WHEN SHE HAS TIME.  Please remember that Dawn is VOLUNTEERING her time to work on the site. That means she doesn't work on it every day. If you have filled out a profile then she gets that information and knows you need to be added. Emailing her will not make that happen quicker.  Please give her a few days to update the site.

Sponsorship and fund raising activities:

Again--the site is there for you to use. Emailing me with your fantastic ideas will not get it to the other 175 women. Please use the forum and interact with your teammates here. Congratulations to the women who have ALREADY started raising money and who are getting and giving great suggestions.

Remember that since JFTC is in 2009 you have TWO separate tax years for donations. Do not be shy to request a donation from individuals, companies or corporations for both 2008 AND 2009! They can write it off, and you can use the money twice. BONUS!  For those of you in the US who are paying the $3,500 personally remember that you too can take advantage of the donation for both years.

Jumpsuits and formation design/color

Patience please. Tony is working on the formation design and colors and once we have finalized this I will be able to start preliminary slotting. Thank you to all who have put down slot and exit strengths and weaknesses on the registration form. It really does help me.  Remember that in a formation of 175 women we need women for EVERY slot--from base 6 (GO BASE CHICKS!) to the outside whackers to the coveted Super Floater slot. Your slotting will be affected by both your requests and basic bio-mechanics (height and weight). If you have a significant change in either (hopefully not height!) then let me know please so we can adjust. As in years past we will have several jumpsuit companies contracted to build suits for JFTC. If you wish to use your own company or provide your own suit you will be able to do that and take the jumpsuit credit (if desired).

If you have jumpsuit(s) that you will not be using--especially pink ones--then you can advertise them on the Forum and perhaps your old suit may fly in the world record again!

Hotels and roommates

Remember to work with Richard on arrival and departure dates, and roommates for hotels if you wish to use JFTC provided housing. I know it is WAY early but WAY early will turn into "just around the corner" before you know it! Eventually we will have ride share and airport information on the website as well.

TO DO LIST:

1) Register on www.jumpforthecause.com website for the event--remember to fill out BOTH forms.  You are NOT part of the event until you have done the paperwork

2) Pay your deposit before 1 December. You are NOT guaranteed a slot until you have finished the paperwork and at some point the number of invited women WILL exceed the number of available slots.

3) ENJOY being a part of this event and be invested in it.  Don't keep your participation a secret from friends and co-workers. Treat JFTC as a JOURNEY rather than a goal and you will enjoy the experience for years to come!

4) Ask for donations in 2008 AND 2009. You can LEGALLY write off donations in both tax years. Again--don't be shy to ask corporations or individuals for donations in both tax years. The women who raise the most money every year WORK at it--it doesn't happen accidently.

5) Don't Bug the Webmistress!

6) Don't get pregnant (They know what causes that now :D)

7) Safety first--stay healthy and strong for the next year and beyond.

8) THANK the Webmistress if you do need to bug her!

9) PLAN your 2008 and 2009 skydiving season. Don't miss out on an event by being late to register. Don't cut back on skydiving--now more than EVER you need to be current, confident and competent!

10) Visualize perfection! You have CHOSEN to join ranks with the strongest, brightest and best women skydivers in the world. Use the months ahead to prepare for JFTC 2009 in word, thought and deed.

THINK PINK! :D

Thank you to ALL The wonderful women and men of JFTC. This will be the best event ever because of YOU!!

Until next month...
