NEW for 2009!!!
Jump for the Cause Power Point Presentation from Cheryl McClure: Click to Download This was used at a presentation with the local pipefitters union. It is easily modifiable, however the last three slides need a special codec file to run. It is easy to delete them if they don’t work.

One that's worked pretty well so far (during an event) is boobie cupcakes. We got the idea from http://cupcakestakethecake.blogspot.com/2008/10/dolly-parton-cupcakes-for-breast-cancer.html . Only instead of whatever they have as the aureola and nipple, we used darker frosting and cranberries. One of the women participating from Houston is African-American, so we made some of them chocolate, with nipples. Standard pink frosting looked more appetizing than a more flesh-toned version.
The chocolate sold better than the pink; the ones with aureolas and nipples sold better among skydivers than the plain ones, and walking around with them was far more successful than waiting for people to come to the table. I got plenty of people paying more than the cost (we charged $3 each), or paying and then not taking the cupcake (one guy said "they're not real boobies, and they're not real food" which was pretty funny).
The catch lines were: "Tits and food, it doesn't get much better" and "I'm selling hugs for $3 and you get a free cupcake to go along with it" and (for the more daring) "I felt kind of dirty smoothing the aureola frosting with my finger…"
We got the cupcakes at cost from a local place; $25 bought 10 dozen. So far we've sold about 6 dozen and made well over $300 (not sure, because I've turned over the money).
The real catches are making sure that the jumpers know that it's for JFTC, and walking around. This was during TSR weekend, when there was a lot (too much) winded down time.

Ideas from Events Past
Joanne Haberl writes in: Hi Kate and Mallory, I just had a very successful fundraising event on Saturday. I held a silent auction at one of the sports bars which help all kinds of groups with their fundraising efforts. They printed up Ticketmaster tickets, we kept half the money from the ticket sales. They provided a closed section, gave us a microphone and tables for the auction. They provided a light appetizer buffet, and gave us happy hour prices. They gave us access to some of the games and our people paid us for the games, we kept all the money. We contacted anyone and everyone for donations for the auction and we had an overwhelming response. All in all it was a huge success. It was quite a bit of work, but it definitely paid off.
Drop Zone Fundraising Ideas Downloads for Donations JFTC Graphics, Ribbons & Banners available for download to help you to help us generate donations for the cause. Click Here
Note: Be sure to keep track of money donated from people at your drop zone. Jump For The Cause (JFTC) headquarters will provide you with the necessary forms and easy process. Email Doug Spesart for forms. Your Drop Zone program should include an official collection center or process for collecting and tracking donations, and providing receipts to cash donors. Collect donations at manifest (set up a jar with sign)
Fundraising ideas for drop zones:
- Stage a car wash on Sunday afternoon at the DZ. All skydivers seem to have dirty cars. So do the whuffos! Skydivers drive home in a clean vehicle!
- Select some bake sale weeks at your DZ. Ask different skydivers to participate in the responsibility for the goodies and the sales. Make it a competition if you like!
- DZ Hangar ("garage") Sale at the DZ. Plan the event now and advertise to your skydiving customers to bring sellable items over the course of a few weeks. Then advertise to your local community and skydiving customers a special sale to benefit Breast Cancer Research. Then in the springtime, hold a Hangar Sale, open to the local community, with proceeds going to JFTC.
- Auction massages at the DZ. (One of your customers must be a masseuse!)
- Solicit companies to donate items then sell or auction them to raise donations.
- "Sell" sponsorship cards to display in your hangar! This is just like other charities in your local community stores. Here's how it works: Individuals pay $1 each to sign a paper Pink Parachute (or some other representative card) showing their sponsorship. Then your hangar is displayed with all these pretty cards with donor signatures. This is easily an on-going program throughout the season. Your regular customers, new students, and local whuffos will all donate $1 to have a card in their name displayed on the walls of your hangar or manifest area.
Set up your own DZ system/contest and skydiving events. Get creative!!!!
- Skydiver who collects the most wins a free day of jumps (or prize choice of DZ), plus second and third place prizes.
- Select a specific time period or special weekend event and donate a portion of jumps.
- Auction or raffle a tandem jump or day of jumping, with proceeds for JFTC.
- Event idea: Lingerie load for DZs for get them media exposure (sample press release is available from JFTC headquarters via www.jumpforthecause.com)
- Event idea: Scrambles are a fun way to mix levels of skydivers for a fun event and raise funds. Ask for more information on how Scrambles events work.
- Hold a special event for JFTC during the final weekend just prior to the Jump For The Cause week
- Any of the above ideas can also be split between sponsoring a participating team member in the JFTC Women's World Record and your DZ.
Remember to be safe, have fun, enjoy your blue skies and let's take care of each other! Breast Cancer Research needs your support!
