February 2009
Greetings to the JFTC team:
Preparation for JFTC 2009 is proceeding ahead of schedule. If you haven't visited the website www.jumpforthecause.com lately it has a whole new look and is much more user friendly. Thanks to Dawn for all the hard work on the website!
New Business:
JFTC Record Formation drawing and exit orders are up on the site!. Tony has come up with a fantastic new design and exit order for the 2009 JFTC skydive formation. You can see it on the JFTC website here http://www.jumpforthecause.com/formation_info.html As you can see there are a LOT of pink slots up for grabs, but a fair number of white, blue and yellow as well. Where possible I have utilized existing jumpsuit colors as noted on your registration forms.
The second colored diagram on this page is the exit order. Note that the colors on the exit order diagram do NOT correspond to jumpsuit colors--they are so you can easily tell the different aircraft apart for exit purposes.
There are two lists of names on this site. The first is an alphabetical list of all current participants showing SLOT and JUMPSUIT COLOR. Each slot has a letter and a number. The letter refers to the aircraft. The airplanes are lettered left to right where A is the far left plane and J is the far right plane. The number beside the letter is the actual exit order with the lower numbers floating and the higher numbers exiting late. 1 is the front floater.
The second list shows the participants listed by aircraft. Captains of each aircraft are also shown.
NOTE: It is possible that there are errors on the lists. If you notice a discrepancy in jumpsuit color and/or slot then please let me know ASAP and I'll give you the correct information. The actual colored formation is correct.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING YOUR JUMPSUIT COLOR and EXIT SLOT. Please check this out ASAP!!
If you are in a slot that is incorrect for your skill level then please let me know, include a very good reason as to why you feel you cannot do your assigned slot. In an all-woman formation many of you will feel that you are closer to the base than you may feel comfortable with. Most of these slots were chosen using your BMI or body mass index (using your provided height and weight) with heavier people towards the center and lighter on the outside. You will have time to learn your new slots while doing our warm up and practice jumps--those of you attending the May Big Way Camps and 100 way will have the opportunity to practice similar slots if you choose. You may need to wear weights or a slightly larger jumpsuit than you are used to in order to be 100% in your comfort zone.
And in the "lessons learned" department I found out if you put a hint on your facebook status about JFTC slots then approximately 135 women will know the above information approximately 15 minutes later. :D
Jumpsuit ordering information. http://www.jumpforthecause.com/jumpsuit_orders.html has have the information from the jumpsuit companies who have agreed to partner with JFTC up ASAP. The official jumpsuit suppliers to JFTC are: Flite Suit, Bev Suit, Symbiosis Suit and Michigan suit. Note that Michigan suits are NOT available in pink.
JFTC will cover the cost of a jumpsuit in your assigned color with booties. Any additional options, including RUSH fees, inside leg grippers, monograms, pockets, zippers, lining etc and/or shipping will be at participant cost. A credit card will need to be supplied at the time of order if you wish to order any extra cost options. If you provide your own suit from a different manufacture, or use (or borrow) one, you may take a $175 discount from your minimum donation. Please check each website for ordering and measuring information. JFTC will not cover the costs of alterations or remakes for suits so be careful when measuring!
Please do not delay the ordering of your jumpsuit if you need a new one! I've started a jumpsuit trade/swap/loan/rent/buy thread on the JFTC forum here: http://jftc.jumpforthecause.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20
Donation information on Website. All monies collected are visible now at http://www.jumpforthecause.com/fundraising_totals.html This list is NOT updated daily so please be patient waiting for funds to be recorded. As in past JFTC events we will allow your initial $500 deposit (if paid personally) to be refunded to you once you exceed the minimum donation amount of $3,500. Please contact Richard for information on this program.
JFTC Support Team. This group consists of the women who are waiting to qualify for a slot on JFTC in the next months, coupled with supporters of JFTC (men or women) who would like to create a profile on the site and raise money for JFTC. I've mailed out the links to sign up for the Support team already. If you are NOT a confirmed participant and would LIKE to join the JFTC support team and did NOT receive a mail from me to that effect please contact me and I'll get you the information.
Do not despair if you do not yet have a confirmed slot. Between cancellations and other circumstances there WILL be slots opening up on JFTC. We will also need an A team on site--strong and ready, willing and able to take a slot on the front 180 when asked for. We will finalize the details for that group in the following months.
Graphic Link for JFTC artwork is on Website. Dawn has put a new page on the site http://www.jumpforthecause.com/download_jftc_graphics.html which has all this years banners and graphics on it. Please use these for creating your own artwork or items to sell for donation.
Travel to JFTC: Please start looking into purchasing your airfare to California. There are GREAT rates available right now from Europe (especially UK) to the West Coast. Don't delay!
Old Business:
Donations: Please send these into Richard on a timely basis. It will be much easier to meet the deadline amount if you place regular sums into your JFTC account. As you can see we have some woman already well on their way to reaching their donation goals.
I've seen some fantastic and innovative ideas on how to raise money already. These include a JFTC tunnel meet that raised over $3,500, a JFTC participant who is getting pledges for every pound of weight lost (or dress size down) by the event (I hope she uses part of the money to buy a weight belt!), JFTC branded coffee, JFTC bottle coozies, JFTC greeting cards--the list goes on and on for fun and inspiring ways to raise money painlessly! Simply linking your JFTC profile page into your email signature can generate interest and donations.
Your picture and profile on the website: There were too many pink ribbons and/or broken links on the site in lieu of photographs. It's not overly difficult to post your own picture and Dawn has posted very specific instructions on the JFTC forum.
This gives our event a unfocused look--why should a person bother to donate if the participant can't be bothered to put her image on the site? Since the pink ribbon looks too generic we have changed them out with a different image. You may not like this image. You have been warned. I recommend every participant log into their profile page and make sure their picture and profile are as they would like to have it. Remember that you can edit your profile--photograph and information--at any time with your own login and password. New picture? No problem. More goals? Just add them....this is a powerful tool available to us and we should take advantage of it.
FAI / National Aeroclub memberships and FAI Sporting Licenses: Another thing to put on your TO DO list. Information for US residents can be found here:
http://www.jumpforthecause.com/fai_information.html It might take as long as month to receive your US paperwork. Non US residents should contact their National Aeroclub in order to receive their 2009 Sporting Licenses from the FAI.
Qualifying events and initial deposit: Women are now being moved from the confirmed participant page to the support team page if they have not contacted Richard (deposit) or Kate (qualifying event) with their 2009 plans. We're serious ladies. I plan to have JFTC 2009 the BEST group of skydivers ever assembled--and together we're going to help save lives with the money we raise while we're making this record. This means requiring a level of participation before the event that has not been seen before. I understand this is difficult. And I'm serious about it. In order to be safe and successful we NEED to pull together and work as a team.
Sponsorship for JFTC: Don't be afraid to ask for ANY level of sponsorship from companies and corporations. We're happy to accept product as well as money. Items that would be VERY nice would be donations of drink and snack foods during the event, as well as adult beverages for the party after the completion! Andrea Curthoys <tbc201@aol.com> is our sponsorship coordinator and will be happy to work with you on ideas. Sponsorship packages (for major sponsors) are available from Richard richard@jumpforthecause.com
Men's Corresponding Event: I see that over 145 men have already signed up for the men's record skydives that will be going on in Perris at the same time as JFTC. If your friend, partner, husband, or boyfriend is interested in this great event please direct him to www.bigways.com for registration.
Qualifying events: The European (Polish) 100 way is filling rapidly, but there are still slots for JFTC participants who qualify. This event will be both fun (balloon and glider jumps will be available each morning) and challenging (unfamiliar aircraft) and I encourage you to join us at www.bigways.eu
The Belgian BWC also has slots and will be a fantastic way to work on any specific skills you want to perfect before JFTC (and after you know what your slot is. Please sign up at http://www.4xtremetime.com/en/pages/BWC.html
The P3 events at Perris in May (BWC and 100 way camp) are close to full and we will have two FULL 100 ways on the second half. Register with Jen Domenico at jen@square1.com
Wrap up:
I'd like to give a big shout out to our very own Richard who was just awarded with the "Person of the year" award from the San Marino PTA council. He's fantastic and we're lucky to have him working with JFTC again. He worked with me until 3:00 am this morning (his time) in order so that I could get this update out before my travels. I will be in Thailand until 17 March. While I will have internet access both it and my time available on it will be limited so please be patient with me.
If there is ANY reason you believe you will not be able to honor your commitment to JFTC 2009 please let me know as soon as possible. Now that we've assigned slots it is important that you remain part of the team in thought, word and deed. See you in SEPTEMBER!
Thank you again and again for the overwhelming positive approach everyone has for this years 10th anniversary JFTC. We'll make it the best one ever with your help. And with the money we raise for breast cancer research and awareness we WILL make a difference!
Blue skies, pink suits, big goals..
