Jump For The Cause 2009 Frequently Asked Questions

What is Jump for the Cause ‘09?
Jump for the Cause is a team of ALL FEMALE skydivers, as well as mail and female camera-flyers, technicians, judges and supporters, who are raising money to help increase awareness for Breast Cancer while preparing to set a new Women’s World Record in formation skydiving. The size will be 175, the location Perris, California, and the dates 21-27 September 2009.

I was on JFTC ’99, ’02 and/or ‘05. How do I get my invitation for the ’09 event?
No one is receiving an invitation to JFTC ’09 unless they have recently jumped with one of the organizers, one of the regional recruiters, or tried out for the event at one of the official try outs.  For an event of this caliber it is important that each individual is competent, confident and current prior to issuing an invitation. See below for more specifics.

How can I get a slot on Jump for the Cause ‘09?
JFTC is being structured a bit differently this time than in past years. There are several ways get a slot on JFTC ’09.

1)Be selected by one of the regional recruiters. The list will be published as soon as we have inked the best women from around the word to take on this task.  Each recruiter has been empowered to select the finest talent for this event from across the world.

    2) Be selected by one of the primary skydiving organizers, Kate Cooper-Jensen or Tony Domenico..  Submit the JFTC Participation Request form via email.

    3)   Try out for the event.  Over half of the slots will be awarded through open tryouts. The most popular are the P3 Big Way Camps and 100 Way Camps held at Skydive Perris. Upcoming dates include September ‘08 and May of ‘09. Other events will be posted as they become available. Be aware that the criteria for selection will be very high

I don’t know the Regional Recruiters or the Organizers. Will this affect my chances of getting a slot on Jump for the Cause ‘09?
The application process will allow you to list all of your skydiving achievements. Competition experience will be acknowledged, as well as large formation experience. There will also be an area for you to list referrals and recommendations. The best skydivers will be chosen for the task, regardless of whether they are known personally by the Organizers, the regional recruiters or not.

How can I contact a Recruiter directly to get a slot on Jump for the Cause ‘09?
In the following weeks we will compile and post a list of regional recruiters: Please respect the time of these people and contact only those you know and have a good working relationship with. They will assess your abilities and refer back to the
JFTC organizing team.

Is there a Jump for the Cause website where I can find more information?
Yes, please refer to this site (
www.jumpforthecause.com)  for updates and further information about this event.

How much will the event cost. Can I see a budget?
We have not yet finalized the budget for JFTC ’09. Due to escalating fuel costs, which affect every segment of the event, we expect a minimum donation in the range of $3,500 but this is not finalized and a fuel surcharge clause will be added to this to cover any extra increases in the costs of operation. This includes housing, jumpsuit, meals and all jumps for the event.  JFTC ’09 is a not-for-profit corporation and all proceeds will be donated to our beneficiary, City of Hope www.cityofhope.org

I don’t want to ask people for donations. Can I just pay the minimum amount and go? Yes.

I have a jumpsuit from an earlier event, or I can provide my own housing, will that effect the buy in cost?
Yes, we will work out a formula that will allow you to deduct a certain amount for either providing your own suit and/or housing. Our goal is to get the maximum amount of money to the charity so we ask that you consider raising the entire amount even if you do qualify for one or more of these discounts.

I’ve got questions about the charitable side of the event.  How do I find answers?  Doug Spesart oversees the fundraising/accounting side of the event. He can answer any questions you have about the non-skydiving parts of the event.

I need photos and/or have questions about video or media. Who can help me?
Mallory Lewis is in charge of both media relationships and this year has taken the additional responsibility of overseeing the video part of the event.

I think I might be able to get large sponsorship from my company or corporation. Do you have a sponsorship package available?
Yes, they will be available. Please contact
Andrea Curthoys for further information. These packets cost JFTC to manufacture so please use them wisely.

I’m from outside the US and I have problems raising money for a US based charity—can I get a discounted slot?
The organizers of JFTC feel that the price—and the goal—of JFTC are worthy investments both in terms of time and money. At this time there are no provisions for offering discounted slots to non-US participants. Many women from out of the USA have worked together to run fund raisers at their local drozones and raised money to cover the minimum fees.

When will I know if I have a confirmed slot on Jump for the Cause ‘09?
At the latest, final invitations will be issued July 1 ‘09, although many people will be confirmed far in advance to that date.  This allows the organizers and recruiters to give the most women possible a chance at both trying out AND the most time available to raise funds for the event. It also allows jumpsuit manufacturers to prepare for the onslaught of pink suits.

I want to attend, but I have to arrive late, leave early or otherwise disrupt the harmony of the event. Is that alright?
No

I’ve always wanted to do large formations but haven’t had the chance to learn. Is this the right event for me?
No. Because of the size of JFTC ’09 we will ask that all participants have, at a minimum, current 100+ way experience.

I want to do Jump for the Cause ’09 but I really REALLY don’t want to wear a pink jumpsuit. Can you help me?
There will be a limited amount of slots for non pink suits. You probably will not get one of them.

I want to do Jump for the Cause ’09 but I only want a specific slot—is it  possible to request one?
This is a 175 way. There are many different slots but we cannot place every person into their favorite exit or docking slot. We will do our best, but there are no guarantees. You may be in the inside wearing weights, you may be on the outside wearing a sweatshirt. Suck it up,  Princess…..

I already have a slot on Jump for the Cause ‘09, but would like to get my friend, girlfriend, wife, boyfriend, husband, packer, DZO etc  involved. Will that be possible?
There are plans to set up an event at the same time and location that will allow jumpers not actually on the record to both raise money and make excellent (and fun) skydives.  There is even talk of an accompanying all Male 100 way—a first in its own right! JFTC will also need many volunteers both on site and before (and after) the event. Contact
Karina Willerup or refer to the website for further information.

I have a bunch of questions about Jump for the Cause ’09 that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual skydive. Where can I find the answers?
Please wait for the website and bulletins to be published. A lot of information can be found on the websites (hosted by the main site) in the archives for the prior events. Immediate answers to non-skydiving related questions can be given to Karina Willerup
k.willerup@planet.nl

I would like to be able to easily contact other women on the event to share ideas for fund raising, travel, etc. How can I do that?
We have created a Facebook group to allow supporters and participants to share ideas and plans for this event. This is located at
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18186680967

Thank you for your time. If you still have questions regarding the Jump for the Cause ’09, the selection for the dive,  or the paperwork above, please contact me at katejumps@square1.com and I will attempt to answer them.
