JUMP FOR THE CAUSE 2002
June Newsletter
Hello Team JFTC!
We've been busy since the last newsletter and I've got some fun things to update you on. First, I’d like to say that the recruitment process has been going great. We've picked up a number of talented ladies in the last few weeks, and I'm looking forward to meeting more at the camps and events we have scheduled for the summer.
NEW BUSINESS
JFTC T-shirts. Thanks to the artistic prowess of JFTC Participant Janet Lundquist, and the great service of Jumper Sportswear, we now are offering JFTC 2002 shirts. We will be selling these at the JFTC store for $20 but we are offering them to participants, in minimum orders of 12 pieces, for only $8 each plus shipping. That will net you a solid profit that you can use towards your fund raising. Please contact Richard (rseymour12@earthlink.net) with your name, address, sizes (M, L and XL only) and quantities you want, and he'll ship upon receipt of payment either by check, money order, or credit card.
List of Participating women. We've posted the list of confirmed women on the JFTC website at http://www.jumpforthecause.com/participants.htm. If you do NOT want your e-mail address to be linked to your name on the site, want a different address linked, or have a spelling correction, please contact Doug (webmaster@jumpforthecause.com) and let him know.
Jump for the Cause Support event. Perris jumper Jason Russell (Jason@airkinetix.com) has offered to help coordinate jumps for interested men by running an event at Perris concurrent with the Women's World Records. The goal is for the men to also raise money for JFTC (going to City of Hope as well) while jumping in a series of organized skydives during the event. If you know someone who might be interested in participating in this event, please contact Jason for particulars. We will also post details on this mirrored event on our site. This is an excellent way for both male and non-140+ way qualified females to actively participate in JFTC.
We have added a document to the site entitled HIGH ALTITUDE COURSE STUDY, supplied by JFTC participant Wendy Smith. This is required reading for any jumper in New Zealand planning to make a jump over 13,000’.
Fund raising. Jumpers from around the country have been thinking up creative ways to pool energy and efforts (team fundraising) to raise money for JFTC. JFTC Participant Kelley Frederickson (kelleyf@ruf.rice.edu) is organizing a JFTC pub crawl called "Crawl for the Cause" in Houston. Other matching events are being planned for San Diego and Atlanta. She challenges you to contact her and set up a matching event in your city. At 7:30 pm, on the date chosen, we'll all hoist our favorite beverage and make a "toast to the Cause" together! The JFTC Forum also has some great ideas on fund raising. Stop by, make a post, and share the knowledge!
JFTC Donation Receipts are now available for download on the JFTC website. Please go to the participant's section. They are in a .pdf file http://www.jumpforthecause.com/docs/JFTC_Receipt_4-up.pdf for easy storage and printing. You can use these as proof of donation for people requesting receipts.
We still have try-outs and warm up camps scheduled throughout the summer. Please try and make one (or more) if possible.
Jan Meyer (Aerosoftware@MakeItHappen.com) is having a "SMOOTH TRANSITION" event at Perris, CA June 8-9th. Contact her for further information.
Tony Domenico, Roger Ponce and I (among others) will be organizing at the American Boogie held in Davis, CA June 19-23rd. www.americanboogie.com. It sounds like this will be a really fun boogie, and the organizers have promised to make donations to any and all JFTC participants who attend!
Jennifer Martin (jennifer@zutesute.com) will be hosting JFTC Tryouts and 40-ways at Skydive Chicago June 22 and 23rd.
Tony, Roger and I will again meet, along with JFTC captain Carolyn Clay at the 40th anniversary of the West Point Dropzone in Virginia, July 18-21. In addition to normal organizing, Carolyn and I will be hosting the Virginia State Women's Record and big way camp. Contact Pam Whitley (pamwhitley@cs.com) for more information.
Nancy LaRiviere will join forces with Paula Philbrook to set the New England Women's Record 40+ way on August 24th at Skydive Pepperell. Contact Paula at (paula@skyjump.com) for details.
Does anyone have other events or dates where JFTC participants can get together and skydive? Let me know and I will add them to the JFTC website
JFTC In Memoriam site: For people who would like to make a donation "in memory of" a loved one who has departed, whether it be from cancer or any other cause of death, we are creating an "In Memoriam" page that will include the name of the deceased, birth/death date and an optional picture. A minimum $25 donation to Jump for the Cause is required. Please contact Richard at rseymour12@earthlink.net for information and to submit a person for recognition.
OLD BUSINESS
Here are requests for the same old stuff. We need the following desperately from EACH and every one of you. Please do this TODAY so you don't forget. I'm going to have to start contacting you, one by one, to track down missing information if you don't send it in, and trust me, that's not the way you want me to know your name! ?
a) order your jumpsuit or let me know if you are planning on reusing a suit from the ’99 event (with color). We may use yellow also, so if you own yellow, please let me know.
b) make sure Richard knows if you need a hotel room, and who you want to room with
c) send in copies of your NAA card, USPA membership (or equivalent) and photos
d) send in your registration form.
Payment: In my original newsletters out to you I had said that the balance for JFTC is due July 1. I have had several women, especially the ones that were recently added to the team, express concern that they might not have the money in such a short time. What I will say is "please try and send as much in as possible by July 1." If, for some reason, you do not have the total amount, please send donations in on a weekly basis thereafter. I want you, and I know you want to do this event, but our accounting (and Richard's sanity) will be much eased if we don't have 140+ women waiting in line on October 13th to pay balances. And if Richard is happy, then we're ALL happy!
JFTC Store: Doug has the store up and running here: http://www.jumpforthecause.com/store.htm. We have quite a few items already. Please take a look at it and see if you want to help out any of the women who have posted items. Most are available at great prices in quantities so that you can purchase different items and resell them to help make your donation amount.
Well, that's all I have for now. As usual, please feel free to contact or any of the JFTC Team with any questions or comments. Until next time
