Women take record-breaking leap of faith for charity
06 October 2005
New Zealander Leigh Ainsworth has linked with 150 other skydivers to set a world record jump for charity.
The record-breaking jump was achieved when 151 women from 15 countries linked arms and legs in the California sky on September 30. Ainsworth, a New Zealand skydiving professional working for Queenstown's NZONE The Ultimate Jump, was the youngest participant in the record attempt.
It took the group 18 jumps over a week of trials to achieve the record.
They used eight jump planes and were based at the Perris Valley Skydiving Centre, the largest in the United States. Jump for the Cause, a non-profit organisation that co-ordinates skydiving fundraising, set up the jump to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
