Welcome

My name is Kate Cooper, I live in Perris, California and I am raising money through Jump for the Cause, a Non-Profit 501(c)3 Organization, to help discover the cure for Breast Cancer. The money I raise, combined with the other participants will go to the City of Hope, an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution, dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

More about me...

I was born in Washington, DC in the year 1960. I started skydiving in 1978 and have made 7800 skydives since then.  I am also interested in mountaineering, reading, fishing, hiking, traveling to both exotic and mundane places and anything outdoors. I enjoy good food, great wine, and outstandign friends wherever I am!

A quick bio...

I started jumping at 17 years old in West Point, VA. Carolyn Clay (who has been on all JFTC events) was one of the women at my dropzone when i started and her strength and courage in a male dominated sport has always encouraged me.  I moved to California after graduating with a degree in Geology (yep, rocks for jocks) in search of larger planes and more sunshine. Both I found at Perris Skydiving where I have been since 1982.  I am the cofounder of www.Square1.com Parachute Sales and I am lucky to work for a company that underwrites the insane amount of time I volunteer to JFTC.

Personal thoughts I would like to share...

Participating in Jump For The Cause 2005 is important to me because I love this shit. Seriously though, I didn't use to do "women's" skydives because I didn't think it was cool. I was, after all, trying my darndest to compete with men on an equal platform. Once I started attending, then finally organizing these events i found out that the power of women together is the headiest cocktail of strength, emotion, beauty (inner and outer), learned intelligence and street smarts I've ever witnessed.  Jump for the Cosmo-Politans anyone? :-)

I would like to take a moment and share a story with you about friendship.  I've met more wonderful people in this sport, and forged bonds that will last forever than most people do in a lifetime.  I'm blessed.

In closing I would like to say thank you to everyone--sponsors, participants, volunteers and my wonderful JFTC partners--Tony Domenico, Mallory Lewis and Richard Seymour--for making this dream happen time after time--even when I SWEAR I will never do this again!
