Last Update: January 25, 2005

Greetings and Happy New Year.

I hope that the new year is treating you well. Here is the latest and greatest from the JFTC team.

Slot Status

If you've been invited to JFTC and you've filled out your registration form and sent in your deposit--THANK YOU!

If you've been invited to JFTC and you have NOT filled in your registration form and/or sent in your deposit you are in risk of losing your slot. There are a ton of qualified women waiting to TAKE YOUR SLOT.... If you are not sure of your status check out the list of confirmed participants on the website. If you are not on this list then you are NOT ON THE DIVE. If you have told kate or richard that you want to attend but have not sent in your registration form or deposit then you are NOT ON THE DIVE.

If you are not sure if you've received an invite or not--you probably haven't, but check with me anyway.

If you've been collecting money for JFTC--THANK YOU!

SELECTION

If you are patiently waiting for one of the try out events to be held in 2005 then an extra big "THANK YOU" for your patience and perserverence. DO NOT DESPAIR if you have yet to receive an nvite.

They are going out slowly and steadily and we are still 8 months (!) out from this event. YOU HAVE TIME!  Even though a number of women have confirmed for this event attrition will lower these numbers by 10-15%. We will be adding qualified participants through the spring and, most likely, summer.

All steps are being taken to insure that the 150+ women we start with on 26 September include the safest, smartest and most skilled group of XX choromosone talent ever assembled in this sport.

DIVE MECHANICS

I know that everyone wants to know what color suit they will be in and where they will be slotted in the big formation. I need a bit more time and quite a few more registration forms before those details can be finalized.

A word on slotting--I've had a lot of women request "the outside of the formation"--mainly because those are the slots they are familiar with and have done in the past. When we have a large formation made up of women we are going to, by definition, have 100+ women in farther than they have done before simply because we don't have the guys making up the center. Take this as a challenge and a goal to be able to check the coveted "any slot" option when doing large formations in the future.  Please do NOT request specific slots for exit unless they are medically mandatory (example--I cannot float because I do not have a right arm is an acceptable excuse. I do not want to float because I get cold easily is not). Also, please do not request to be in the airplane with or docked on the formation beside specific people unless there is good reason. (Example of a good reason--placing women together for translation purposes. Example of a poor reason--placing women together for talking purposes).  This job is hard enough without accomodating special requests.

Remember, irritating the organizer(s) is ... bad.

PAPERWORK

It is a new year so everyone should be able to renew their FAI Sporting License for 2005. In the United States this is through www.naa-usa.org . For other participants this is probably available through your own aeroclub. Please send Richard proof of membership in both FAA and your national Aereclub through end October 2005. Richard also needs photographs of all participants.

Please get measured for a jumpsuit and choose the options you want. Some options may be extra cost even though the base price of the jumpsuit is included in the registration price. If you already have a pink suit, or wish to use a jumpsuit manufacture different than those listed on the website that is fine. There will be a discount provided for participants who provide their own suits but that amount has not been determied yet.
