Hi Kate and Mallory,
I just had a very successful fundraising event on Saturday. I held a silent auction at one of the sports bars which help all kinds of groups with their fundraising efforts.  They printed up Ticketmaster tickets, we kept half the money from the ticket sales.  They provided a closed section, gave us a microphone and tables for the auction. They provided a light appetizer buffet, and gave us happy hour prices.  They gave us access to some of the games and our people paid us for the games, we kept all the money.  We contacted anyone and everyone for donations for the auction and we had an overwhelming response. All in all it was a huge success.  It was quite a bit of work, but it definitely paid off.

Sarah McCarthy is making "no-sew" pink hats! They are being sold for $10 each.

Drop Zone Fundraising Ideas

Note: Be sure to keep track of money donated from people at your drop zone. Jump For The Cause (JFTC) headquarters will provide you with the necessary forms and easy process. E mail Richard Seymour for forms.

Your Drop Zone program should include an official collection center or process for collecting and tracking donations, and providing receipts to cash donors. Collect donations at manifest (set up a jar with sign)

Fundraising ideas for drop zones:

  1. Stage a car wash on Sunday afternoon at the DZ. All skydivers seem to have dirty cars. So do the whuffos! Skydivers drive home in a clean vehicle!
  2. Select some bake sale weeks at your DZ. Ask different skydivers to participate in the responsibility for the goodies and the sales. Make it a competition if you like!
  3. DZ Hangar ("garage") Sale at the DZ. Plan the event now and advertise to your skydiving customers to bring sellable items over the course of a few weeks. Then advertise to your local community and skydiving customers a special sale to benefit Breast Cancer Research. Then in the springtime, hold a Hangar Sale, open to the local community, with proceeds going to JFTC.
  4. Auction massages at the DZ. (One of your customers must be a masseuse!)
  5. Solicit companies to donate items then sell or auction them to raise donations.
  6. "Sell" sponsorship cards to display in your hangar! This is just like other charities in your local community stores. Here's how it works: Individuals pay $1 each to sign a paper Pink Parachute (or some other representative card) showing their sponsorship. Then your hangar is displayed with all these pretty cards with donor signatures. This is easily an on-going program throughout the season. Your regular customers, new students, and local whuffos will all donate $1 to have a card in their name displayed on the walls of your hangar or manifest area.

Set up your own DZ system/contest and skydiving events. Get creative!!!!

  1. Skydiver who collects the most wins a free day of jumps (or prize choice of DZ), plus second and third place prizes.
  2. Select a specific time period or special weekend event and donate a portion of jumps.
  3. Auction or raffle a tandem jump or day of jumping, with proceeds for JFTC.
  4. Event idea: Lingerie load for DZs for get them media exposure (sample press release is available from JFTC headquarters via www.jumpforthecause.com)
  5. Event idea: Scrambles are a fun way to mix levels of skydivers for a fun event and raise funds. Ask for more information on how Scrambles events work.
  6. Hold a special event for JFTC during the final weekend just prior to the Jump For The Cause week in October (October 13-18).
  7. Any of the above ideas can also be split between sponsoring a participating team member in the JFTC Women's World Record and your DZ.
  8. Remember to be safe, have fun, enjoy your blue skies and let's take care of each other! Breast Cancer Research needs your support!
