A quick bio...
|
|
|
I lost my husband to cancer in January 1997. In a bid to deny to myself what had happened I threw myself into a hectic social and sporting schedule including running the London Marathon in 1998. I had developed an unquenchable restlessness and continually needed to challenge myself so I made a career change and then did a tandem skydive in memory of my husband. Within 6 days of my first jump I was back in AFF groundschool determined to take ultimate responsibility for my own life and see how far I could push the envelope.
When I first started I thought I'd jump, get the tee-shirt, tick the box and move onto something else but over the next few years it had become an addictive sport. I wanted to become an accomplished skydiver.

Personal thoughts I would like to share...

Participating in Jump For The Cause 2005 is important to me because Jump for the Cause became an aspiration. I wanted to prove myself as a safe, consistent and reliable team player and I wanted to secure a world title to prove it. I attended my first Big Way skills camp in Perris, CA in May 2004 and went to the Hercules and Vichy Big Way boogies in Sweden and France. I was so excited to be able to part of the Brit Chick 60 way record over Langar, UK in September 2004. It was an awesome event with a fantastic team spirit.
I have since met women from all over the world who will be congregating for Jump for the Cause in September. We will undoubtedly share the roller coaster ride of the record attempt event with mutual respect, support and excitement. I can't wait - this will be an experience like no other!
I would like to take a moment and share a story with you. Since losing my husband to non hodgkins lymphoma and leukaemia, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. My world rocked when she told me about her inconclusive scan. I was terrified. She subsequently had a mastectomy and her reslience and incredible approach to life continues to inspire me and everyone around her. Nearly three years on, she is active and healthy thanks to continuous advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
In closing I would like to say Wherever you live in the world, the research undertaken by City of Hope could help you. By uniting globally and challenging ourselves in this way, we aim to raise publicilty to raise funds to help generations to come. Please help us. No matter how large or small your contribution, it really does help.
