Welcome

My name is Betty Bennett, I live in East Dundee, IL and I am raising money through Jump for the Cause, a Non-Profit 501(c)3 Organization, to help discover the cure for Breast Cancer.  The money I raise, combined with the other participants will go to the City of Hope, an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution, dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

More about me...

I was born in Urbana, IL.  I started skydiving in 1997 and have made 2345 skydives since then. I am also interested in Competitive swimming, springboard diving, biking, and the weight room are activities I enjoy to keep fit for skydiving. As a lover of photography and digital video, I hope soon to start doing video for skydiving formations. I have been an avid field hockey player and still umpire field hockey. Also, I judge high school and club girls gymnastics. My profession, physical education teacher of grades K-12, is an outgrowth of my interest in sports. To give my career more scope I added a masters degree in Outdoor Teacher education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Computer Technology.

A quick bio...

From the beginning, my drop zone included and supported new skydivers. I had 67 jumps when the 1998 world record formation of 246 was made. Since then, one of my goals was to be part of a world record large formation.  On the subject of my other sporting interests, highlights of my most recent competition, the World Masters Games in Edmonton, July 2005, included being part of a winning mixed free relay in national record time and receiving a gold in the one meter spring board diving. On the family level, one day per week, I drive 400 miles RT to spend time with my aging mother who no longer drives and needs support.

Personal thoughts I would like to share...

Participating in Jump For The Cause 2005 is important to me because What better way to combine a sport I love with raising needed money for breast cancer research. The 2002 JFTC group of women was the most determined and focused group skydivers with which I have ever worked. It was a very moving experience to be part of that group of women from around the world and to achieve one of the goals I’d made back in 1998. Now that there is no 'Wild West' left to explore, to me this woman’s world record attempt has many of the elements of that type of adventure. However, it does have strict law and order.

I would like to take a moment and share a story with you about I am an endometrial cancer survivor. Several members of my parents families have battled breast cancer and other forms of cancer. It is a disease that continues to need more money for research to find a cure.

In closing I would like to say many thanks to those of you that contribute to Jump for the Cause 2005. I very much appreciate your generosity for the donation that will go to the City of Hope Breast Cancer Research.
